Blogging for Marketing

January 25, 2007 // Drew Stauffer

Using a blog as a marketing tool is a very effective way to provide your customers with information and services. Often, companies receive more new clients from their blog exposure than article distribution, conference networking, or their existing website. Top Rank Blog recently posted a list of some of the better “Lessons Learned About Blogging.”

Out of the 25 items on the list, I was really looking forward to finding a few that I could debate, but after reading the list many times I have to say that I agree with Lee.

What is SEO or Search Engine Optimization?

January 18, 2007 // Drew Stauffer

Search engines are constantly evolving and those who market themselves on search engines must adapt with the changes to be successful. Often in the search community there is a new technique or hack that people are convinced will help them rocket to the top of the rankings, but the fact is there is no one sure fire way.

Reading a recent post at Search Engine Watch, I came across an article titled, “What Are SEO Best Practices?” Author Eric Enge breaks down SEO in an easy to understand four-step process:

  • Subject-Matter Expertise
  • Information Architecture
  • Technical Implementation
  • Marketing

Top 10 of All Tens

December 29, 2006 // Drew Stauffer

We all love top 10 lists. They’re easy to scan, so you can immediately decide if you want to waste your time reading them. I checked my Newsgator feeds half way through a boring day at work and only found one lonely new post from Rand at SEOmoz: SEOmoz’s 2006 Stats in Review.

This insightful article was not your ordinary top 10 list. Each item in the list leads to another important, relevant list. Rand’s main list contained everything from code to content to development to stats. This post is a must read for any blogger/marketer/developer. Thanks a lot Rand!!

Searching for Your Submitted Articles

November 22, 2006 // Drew Stauffer

I’ve been submitting articles more aggressively this past year and I must confess I began mainly for SE rankings, but then I really got into it. I never thought of myself as a writer but throughout my life and business I’ve learned that I have a lot to say.

I try to be very proactive about my articles because I do put a lot of time and energy into them. The other day I started to wonder where they all were. Do you know how to search for your submitted articles? How many links have you acquired?

If you search for your article with quotes around it, the SE will list all the sites that have your article published. (EX. “Your New Website is Inside”) I was shocked to see that one of my articles, which had been published only 55 days earlier, was already listed on more than 140 other sites. Not too bad for only submitting it to 3 article directories.

Ready to try your hand and see how far your articles go on the web? Here is a list of free article directories to get you started:
