3 Ways to Find the Perfect Freelance Designer
June 28, 2007 // Drew Stauffer
Last month I wrote about Website Design Solutions for your Small Business and how important the design of your website is to the image of your business. Today I am going to focus on where business owners can find good designers that won’t break the bank.
Much like any search, knowing where to look is half the battle. Searching for “web designers” or “website design” on Google is going to lead you to a sea of companies that may or may not have good designers. What we want to do is go directly to the source.
Show Me Wild and Crazy
May 18, 2007 // Drew Stauffer
I recently got a request from a client who asked me for a design that was wild and crazy; something that no one has ever seen before. Every time I hear this it boggles my mind and unfortunately I hear it every few months. I have three questions that instantly come to mind.
- What have they seen?
- Whose definition of wild and crazy?
- Are they bold enough to approve the design?
How to Present with Professionalism
April 26, 2007 // Drew Stauffer
After you’ve landed your big client and slaved over the design for weeks with no sleep, it’s time to present your work. You convinced your client to spend a great deal of money, and your presentation is an opportunity to show them why choosing you was the best decision they ever made.
In today’s market, everybody has a nephew that can design a website and it is important to set yourself apart from everybody else. As a designer, it’s not enough to just have a good portfolio; you need to carry through on the other aspects of business. Often, presenting your work and getting the client to approve the design is the most extensive part of the entire development process. Designs are rarely approved without the client requesting revisions. This can be a very time consuming process if you don’t approach the design presentation with professionalism and confidence. You need to anticipate the needs of your client and deliver a well-presented product.
Searching for Your Submitted Articles
November 22, 2006 // Drew Stauffer
I’ve been submitting articles more aggressively this past year and I must confess I began mainly for SE rankings, but then I really got into it. I never thought of myself as a writer but throughout my life and business I’ve learned that I have a lot to say.
I try to be very proactive about my articles because I do put a lot of time and energy into them. The other day I started to wonder where they all were. Do you know how to search for your submitted articles? How many links have you acquired?
If you search for your article with quotes around it, the SE will list all the sites that have your article published. (EX. “Your New Website is Insideâ€) I was shocked to see that one of my articles, which had been published only 55 days earlier, was already listed on more than 140 other sites. Not too bad for only submitting it to 3 article directories.
Ready to try your hand and see how far your articles go on the web? Here is a list of free article directories to get you started:
