Back Pain No Mas
January 24, 2008 // Drew Stauffer
Back pain has plagued my life ever since I started skateboarding around 6 years old. Who knew that falling on the concrete over and over again would catch up with me. Fast forward about 22 years and I still have a pretty significant amount of pain.
I’ve been to numerous doctors and chiropractors on the east and west coast and no one has ever been able to provide any answers as to why I am having this pain. MRI’s, CT-scans, Barium CT scans and every other test possible has been done and nothing has ever given me an answer. For a few years I was running very habitually and that definitely helped out a lot.
Bad IE

Due to some nasty rendering in Internet Explorer were going to have to put the new theme on hold for just a bit. We should be able to get her back real soon.
Georgia on my Mind

Possibilities from design to design are unlimited. Take a look at the CSS Zen Garden for example; all of the designs published at the garden use the exact same HTML. The only difference is the way they are styled. With the advancements of CSS, a designer can do almost whatever they like on the Internet.
Designer Roadblocks
One limiting factor that web designers are plagued with is the variations of web fonts. Sadly, we are limited to a safe list of about nine web ready fonts that are pre-installed on everyone’s computer. Personally whenever I am looking to get a little crazy with my web fonts I go to typesetter where I can compare fonts side-by-side, instead of experimenting with CSS until I get the look that I’m going for.
I have always been a fan of minimalism and with this new ‘08 design I wanted to get back to that type of style. I didn’t want to beat my users over their heads with drop shadows and bevels. I wanted clean, elegant, and timeless. Any veteran designer can look at a range of designs on the web and say, “I remember when that was popular.”

Happy New Year!!

Back to Design
December 17, 2007 // Drew Stauffer
While many companies are getting ready to do the budget for next year, few of them are putting anything towards design. Marketing is important but what about putting a new face on your marketing?
Looking around at other sites and with all the new technologies that spring up every day, your website has to stay on somewhat of an edge if you expect to look like a legitimate business…especially in website design. An Internet year can seem quite a bit faster than a calendar year and if your visitors are coming to your site everyday, seeing the same design for 365 of them can get stale real quick.
Between Alibi and Wildfire, SEO and website development has taken up the majority of time this past year and I do miss the design. 2008 is coming and I think its time for a fresh change. Over the holiday break you will see a change around here I’d like to know what you think. I would also encourage other companies to do the same. Sometimes a face lift is the best way to spark up interest in your brand.
Let me know what you think, will design be a part of your new year’s budget?

Directories for Links or Traffic?
November 21, 2007 // Drew Stauffer
Easy inbound links…ahh if only they were really that easy, or are they? We’ve all seen those ads that promise manual submissions to hundreds of directories for some fee. But then again, most of us know that the majority of traffic from search engines comes from the 4 big ones, Google, Yahoo, MSN, and Ask.
So is it a wise investment in your marketing plan to purchase this service? I guess it depends on what you’re trying to achieve. I can’t see actually obtaining that much traffic from an obscure search engine that no one has heard of, but the chances of Google seeing your listing in their directory and giving you credit for a link is a lot better.
Is Your Website Getting Indexed?
November 14, 2007 // Drew Stauffer
How often do you check to see what pages are indexed by each search engine? If you’re not checking on a regular basis you could be in for a surprise. Yes, Google is the dominant search engine, but Yahoo, MSN and Ask are still going to bring you a decent amount of traffic.
We recently re-organized an older site and re-wrote all the content to optimize it for a new set of specific keywords. After 301 re-directing the old pages and submitting the XML sitemaps to Google, I gave it some time to see what pages were going to get indexed.
Next Generation Warfighter from Milliken Military
November 8, 2007 // Drew Stauffer
Milliken Military produces some of the world’s most technologically advanced fabrics. I recently got a chance to work with Milliken on their new website and SEO campaign, and I must say that it gave me so much more respect for the men and women who fight for our country every day.
Some of the materials that Milliken focuses on include: flame-resistant clothing, extreme cold and wet weather gear, high performance combat uniform materials, baselayers and knits, and dress uniform materials.
If you have the time I highly recommend checking out the site and learning about all the technologies that go into the clothing and material that helps protect this country.
