What is Niche Marketing?

Niche marketing is the concept of targeting a specific, small group of people or businesses that are potentially in need of your services. Business plans like these are often very effective because you can achieve a greater ROI because your marketing and advertising budget is more focused on the people who will be likely to purchase your services.

Much like long tail keywords for search engine optimization, niche marketing will be targeting people who are very close to the purchasing stage versus people who are just price checking or looking at various services. Target marketing can be the best way to market your products and services and put them right in front of your customers.

Three problems typically come to mind when trying to implement effective niche marketing.

  2. How to interact with your niche market?
  3. How to land a sale from your niche market?

Where to find your niche market?

The online environment pulls people of similar interests together for you. Being in the right place at the right time does help when you are trying to sell your services, but you can cut your chances down considerably by placing yourself where your customers and potential clients will be.

Social Media in an environment online where people share personal insights, opinions and perspectives. Some examples include: MySpace, Facebook and You Tube. Many social media sites are already broken up into niche markets. For News aggregation you can use Digg and Reddit for Photo sharing use Flickr or Zooomr.

Establish an identity at these social media sites and you can begin to form relationships to create future customers and clients. Spotting trends through social media can sometimes be better determined by industry professionals and can be a big time saver to let people who are already comfortable with multiple platforms take on this roll for you.

Directories are also broken up into categories for you but there are also niche directories that focus even more on a specific niche. You can usually find niche directories by searching Google or any search engine you like for a specific keyword about your business. A well ranking directory will often be included within the first 10 or 15 links. Visit these niche directories to find out more about your customers. What they need or how they’re searching. Submit your link to these directories so that future users will find your link when they are searching for services.

Forums are also popular for user congregation. Here you can get a very good idea about what your potential clients need. Users will often ask specific questions in regards to what they need. By creating an identity on forums you can establish yourself and begin to help the community with their questions. Google Groups is a fantastic forum that can bring you together with your specific niche.

How to interact with your niche market?

Once you've established where you niche community is you can begin to target their needs. All three of the above alternatives to finding your niche markets have to do with getting involved. You have to establish a presence for people to know your there. Get involved, make friends, be a part of the community and they will come to you.

Take a few minutes out of each day to explore other people in your community. If you like what they have to offer, make them a friend or contact. Online communities thrive off of interaction and you will be rewarded for your efforts.

How to land the sale from your niche market?

You know where they hang out. You've made a name for yourself and formed a few relationships, now it's time to put your plan into full effect. Since you know what your clients wants you can accurately project the benefits of your services in a way that is going to encompass their needs. Attacking your target market in this approach gives your business the advantage of being the authority. You can directly supply answers to their problems since you have done the research.

Speak directly to your market. When you launch a new product or create more marketing then you need to answer the questions and concerns form your community. Speaking directly to the consumer will re-iterate that you understand what their needs are.

Give them what they want. When consumers want solutions to A, B, and C. Don't give them solutions to just A and C. Give them solutions for everything. The last thing you want to do is reel the client in and then jerk the rug out from underneath them. If you are going to target their needs you need to make sure that you completely follow through.

Consumers will purchase services from companies when they believe their needs are being met. If you direct your marketing dollars to answering questions and give the community what they want then you will be able to effectively target your niche market.

Targeting your niche market is not an impossible task; you just need to follow a few steps. Once you establish where to find your niche market and figure out how to interact with them then you can begin to market to their needs. Niche marketing does take time, and you can't form relationships in these communities over night. You have to put in the time in order to get anywhere.

Establishing an effective niche marketing campaign can takes months to achieve and should be attacked accordingly. Give your company small goals to accomplish every month and you will soon be in control.
