Friday Class- Learning How to Give

Recent Tweets

For the last few months at Jackson-Dawson we have been having these informative presentations about various marketing topics led by Steve Whigham.

The idea behind them is to give all the employees a break from the hustle and bustle and let us unwind and get a new perspective on our field and professions.

Some of Steve's past presentations include:

Yesterdays presentation was “Leadership–How to Lead and Influence Others” and like always it was extremely informative and inspiring. If I took anything away from the presentation it was that in life you have to give back to be a truly successful leader.

Throughout Steve’s presentation we reflected on a few powerful quotes from some pretty incredible leaders.

“Leadership is a choice, not a position.”
–Steve Covey, The 8th Habit
“The hardest victory is over self.”
–Aristotle
“Be the change you wish to see in the world.”
–Mahatma Gandhi
TRUE LEADERSHIP starts on the inside with a SERVANT'S HEART,
then moves outward to serve others.
THE ULTIMATE SECRET OF EFFECTIVE, RESPECTED LEADERS: Giving
“Most people just laugh when they hear the secret to success is giving… Then again, most people are nowhere near as successful as they wish they were.”
–Bob Burg and David John Mann, The Go-Giver
“You get the best out of others when you give the best of yourself.”
–Harvey Firestone
“Let us endeavor to live that when we come to die
even the undertaker will be sorry.”
–Mark Twain

This presentation really hit home with me because in the beginning of this year I decided to do a pro-bono site for a local organization here in Greenville, SC as a way to give back to community. I decided to do this because a few weeks ago at work I completed A Child’s Haven website. A Child's Haven is a nonprofit organization in Greenville focused on providing a place of uplift and transformation for young children whose development has been delayed by poverty, neglect and abuse.

Learning about the organization and the hard times that these children go through really made any problems in my life seem extremely minuscule and inspired me to give back.

I'll be sure and post about my pro-bono client as soon as the site is finished, but rest-assured 2009 will be a year of giving. Since I’m in such a giving mood these days, if you need anything from me…a question, comment, advice, anything… please free to post it in the comments below and I will try my best to oblige.
