What is SearchWiki?
November 27, 2008 // Drew Stauffer
SearchWiki has gotten quite a bit of buzz since it launched a few days ago. With both positive and negative feedback, it will be interesting to watch this new feature develop.
Over at Search Engine Land, Danny Sullivan had a nice Q & A with Cedric Dupont, Google’s SearchWiki product manager; Johanna Wright, Director of Product Management at Google and Google software engineer Corin Anderson to get some more details about the specifics of SearchWiki.
Here is a video directly from Google explaining exactly what SearchWiki is and what it can do for you.
Do you think this will change the way SEOs do their job? Give me your opinion in the comments below.

It was being called up as danger for Organic search engine optimization industry. It didn’t get much popularity which was expected by Google team. I think this is the worst feature which Google has launched till now.

I understand that it is just little more than an advanced bookmarking service. You need to be signed into your google account for it to work.
I suspect google will however use the data on what it being bookmarked to maybe form a small part of their ranking process. Will have to wait and see.

I’m interested in how it impacts SEO because I maintain multiple client’s profiles. Will it be a negative factor in the search wiki algorithm if a profile that is logged in from the same IP as another account? In other words, will I be punished for multiple profiles?

I wouldn’t think you would get punished. I think about work…almost 100 people, sharing the same IP with at least 70 Google accounts, all active at the same time.
I would think Google has a way to handle all this.

That’s an excellent point Drew. I will be less concerned about that aspect of it. Do you think that Wiki comments amongst my profiles should be shared? I.e. Should I use my clients different profiles to comment on each other?
9 Drew Stauffer // Dec 10, 2008 at 4:50 pm
Not sure about that one. I think when you get into commenting on other clients profiles that your kind of trying to “fool” the system.
Plus, I don’t think a few comments would have any effect on any particular listing.
Now if there was someway you could create hundreds of comments that looked like different IPs then you might have some black magic on your hands, but i have no clue about that.

I think Searachwiki will slowly and steadily gain momentum. It is going to help people who searches in google for anything and everything.Initially, people would not like to login and search, but after realizing its benefits, regular searchers will surely move to Google Searchwiki. And I think microsoft is testing same thing on its own live search.
