Search Quality-Defined by Google

August 6, 2008 // Drew Stauffer

Having an accessible website is one of the most important aspects of web design. Immediately following accessibility is usability. If a user cannot figure out how to use your site then they’re not going to stick around.

Have you ever wondered what steps Google takes to maximize usability? Most people might look at a results page from Google and think they just wanted to keep things simple - white page with 10 links to websites and very few distracting elements.

Ben Gomes from Google goes into detail about usability as it relates to search quality and how Google strives to make their search results user-friendly so you can find the websites you want as quickly as possible. Here are a few bullet points from his article:

  • A small page
  • Complex algorithms with a simple presentation
  • Features that work everywhere
  • Data driven decisions - experiment, experiment, experiment

Check out Ben’s full post to get all the details. Also check out Udi Manber’s post on the introduction to search quality and his previous posts on Google’s rankings and the technology behind Google’s rankings.

That’s right keep it simple, Google doesn’t care if you have some complicated site, it might even not rank it. Focus on content and focus on getting links and you will be alright for sure don’t worry!

Google is really the big kahuna on this… They don’t care if your site is all decorated with graphics videos and stuffs. The most important thing is you make a high page rank… whether your site looks dull, it still is a winner if its got a high pg rank…

Website rankings depends upon quality of content and back links with proper anchor. But what helps the website is web usability with proper onpage and offpage SEO. SEO drives business to website and your website should be able to speak what you are offering to audience.
